With new requirements emerging for the modern communication systems, new network architectures are appearing. In mobile networks, the Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN) emerges as an alternative to the traditional approach by bringing an open, intelligent, interoperable, and virtualized architecture. However, To enable its feasibility, challenges regarding the requirements in the transport network between the O-RAN components need to be solved. This work aims to investigates Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) as a promising solution to reach the requirements and evaluate its performance in the O-RAN transport networks. Furthermore, this work introduces the conceptual design of a deployment framework, SmarTAS, envisioned as a central unit for orchestrating TSN features across the network. The research is currently in its preliminary stages, focused on establishing the necessary evaluation infrastructure.
